Ball gown scuffs across concrete, feet wobble in my glass slipper. Back straightened with a metal pole holding my frame. Hair, stiff, glued into place. I spot her. Heels like daggers, hair piled high, poofy, free. Her stride commands the room, a hurricane of sequins and glamour. Eyes, an artist’s canvas, cheekbones sharp— cutting through tradition. And I— A trembling silhouette in satin I trace the edge of my shadow, longing to wear a smile that’s mine.
Happy Pride Month, all!
